True Stewardship is the giving of oneself to God….Giving of ones time is great. Giving of one’s treasure is great. However, the giving of oneself is the GREATEST and TRUE mark of Stewardship. It is an offering that pleases God the most.  Therefore, young men and women be encouraged to study for the giving of your talents to your church: teaching, singing, dancing, directing, reading, or becoming clergy. Be prepared because it is not a journey for the faint of heart. It is not a journey for those that think… Pray and know that God wants you to ….

Now,  lets talk a little bit more about the principles of Stewardship and how it impacts your Church and our AFCMOA Communion.

The Holy Grail of Stewardship is defined as the giving or sacrifice of one’s Time, Treasure, or Talent. That is why the AFCMOA is growing. Yes,  people are starting to give more of their treasure which is greatly appreciated. However, what is more exciting and important is that the ‘DUES MINDSET” is leaving our AFCMOA Communion Family. People, Churches, Bishops, and Pastors are beginning to really “SEE’ the Vision for our Communion Family of Churches.

The more we educate our people about Stewardship and the more we are good stewards by example,  making stewardship a way of life,  people will be inspired to give back to God what he allowed us to care for as tenants in this world.

STEWARDSHIP ARE NOT DUES. DUES ARE NOT TITHES.

With that said, know that the traditional ‘DUES’ system is a losing system because it encourages the opposite in results from what God expects. People look at DUES as another bill to be paid. It is a possible tax right off. DUES are too often not fair.

Let me share a brief example.

Our AFCMOA Communion budget is designed for mission effectiveness and for growth which causes it to be consistently under siege. Say a realistic DUES budget is developed in the traditional “DUES BASED SYSTEM”. Each church is determined to pay $500, per year.

Our Patriarch Cardinal Charles R. Hill Sr., asked the question. Is this system fair?

He determined that it was not fair, on the one hand, because there were too many Churches or Fellowships that really could not afford to pay the $500 or who would struggle to pay it.

On the other hand, after much prayer, Cardinal Hill determined that it was not fair because there were Churches with exceptional means and could afford contributing 5,000 or even $10,000 per year instead of the minimum DUES required of $500.

This is how and when the Holy Spirit enlightened our Cardinal how to develop our STEWARDSHIP PROGRAM.
We are still in Phase one where Churches are still paying DUES.  BUT here is the twist.

When a mother church joins the communion, no matter how many churches or fellowships that it has, the mother church gives the AFCMOA Communion a minimum of $20 per month or $240 per year.  That is right, even if the mother church is covering 20 other churches, the mother church only is asked to give a $20 stewardship offering to the AFCMOA. Where else is this done?

OUR AFCMOA COMMUNION BUDGET IS MISSION AND GROWTH ORIENTED.

As we are growing, we realize and have required that spending is budgeted as the first step in our budgeting process. This way, we can determine our true priorities and determine the best course of action without worrying where the income will come.  This process helps us to identify what is needed and what is not as we go along rather than waiting to learn what parishioners are willing to give without knowing what spending is required.

How does AFCMOA show good Stewardship of Offerings received from Communion Churches and Fellowships? We give of our Time, Treasure, and Talents back to Communion and beyond?

The AFCMOA has reached a point of understanding that our COMMUNION must also be a GOOD STEWART.  Therefore, that is why the AFCMOA ideally budgets 10% of offerings received from our Communion Church Family and includes the following considerations that we share for your consideration and implementation for your own fellowship or church::

  • Community Outreach Visiting the elderly,  day care centers, feeding the homeless, the sick and shut in are but a few examples of our AFCMOA Communion Outreach. Matthew 25.
  •  Leaders, please advise parishioners to remember their local church or our AFCMOA Communion in their Wills.  Wills are common now, but bequests to the Church or Communion are not so common
  • Pastors, ensure that you have your church’s bequest materials and information available for your church members or congregation, or parish.  Teach and educate your parishioners  that they can bless the church with money or assets. Your parishioners can even specify the specific project within the church that they want their treasure distributed.  Advise your parishioners to talk with you or an assigned minister to answer questions about which project the church really needs done.
  • endowment is a fund set up that would simply build to a specified goal of capital. Once that goal is met, only the interest generated would be available for use. These endowments can be funded in many ways. People can will funds, the AFCMOA  can budget an amount, contributions can be given. Some churches in this country have substantial endowments, some with capital of over $1,000,000. The interest generated allows more of the current donations to be used for other purposes such as outreach.

Stewardship is more than just giving money. We must broaden the Vision of Stewardship.  As mentioned earlier, the true measure of stewardship is how one uses their time, treasure, and  talents  to better others. Ask the question, how else can I help my church, our Communion? Look around, there is always work to be done in our Communion and your Local Church:  Janitors, readers, acolytes, ministers, deaconess, deacons, priest etc are needed.   Study, prayer, and talk with your Pastor for guidance. Be a blessing to get blessed.

It is only through the mindset and actions of Stewardship GIVING rather than the mindset of  PAYING DUES” that will open the heart of God’s people to be a help-meet for Christ as HE leads us to build God’s Kingdom.

We as leaders must keep an eye on this fact. We must be totally committed as stewards in word and deed so that we are a living example for others to follow. As your sons and daughters see your deposit or sow into the Communion, they will be more inspired to sow into your individual ministry….

The AFCMOA Communion as an Organization Must Have Good Stewardship Principles Any sound stewardship program has to include a realistic support package in the budget its leader. In our case, we are referring to Patriarch, Cardinal Charles R. Hill Sr. . For over 40 years, he has been the one person responsible before God (and now it is the Patriarchal Council)  for our AFCMOA Communion family. . When it comes to the Patriarch’s compensation, we will be fair and be guided by the Holy Spirit.
